I think Apple (and Meta) are making an unforced error by not developing a few compelling apps to spark broader interest in their VR devices. Even if those devices fail.
These headsets could be positioned, at least in part, as extensions of Apple TV platforms where there are original titles created by the vendor.
This. The iPhone was a huge success because even without any apps, the web browser, phone, music, and maps made it a very useful device on its own. The Vision Pro is mostly screen mirroring natively and for most people that’s not compelling enough.
Apple immersive video has been the killer app for me, but their release schedule is 5 minutes every other month. They really need to double down on the media creation imho
If only it was more comfortable I'd really use it for everything and all the time. For work with my Macbook as an external monitor. And with built in apps lounging around as you would an iPad, phone or Apple TV.
Kinda funny, Meta just pushed an update for the Quest 3 that comes across as a response to Liquid Glass in that it uses transparency. I was thinking the point of Liquid Glass might have been an attempt to trick Meta into wrecking its platform by adopting a UI the hardware couldn’t handle —- this new update has more transparency and I think it a touch worse than it was before, but it is not as lavish as Liquid Glass.
Apple is waiting for third party devs to do the hard work for them of making the platform a success.
After which they will charge them 30% of their income.

I think if they were able to develop compelling VR apps, they would have. I don’t think it’s an unforced error, I think that nobody knows how to.
